Idiosyncrasy is the interruption and provocation of everyday lives and routines through imaginative redefinitions of caution and logic.
The reimagined Southampton Airport, in partnership with Amazon, Flyme, and the UK Government embraces the Covid-19 pandemic and redefines our current notions of travel and retail, for those choosing to remain grounded within the UK. During the lockdowns, airports, particularly domestic airports, became disused and empty. Along with this there was rapid growth in staycations, with parts of the UK becoming overrun with British tourists. While addressing the environmental impact of air travel on the planet, this project harks back to the golden age of Victorian British seaside holidays and our yearning for Mediterranean landscapes.
