The Hydrotherapy Centre

Project details

Programme
Unit PG18
Year 5

With life expectancy roughly tripling over the course of human history and society heading towards a 100-year lifespan, chronic and degenerative diseases associated with older age have followed. There is a need to go beyond just maximising life expectancy and meliorate health as much as possible so that these ‘extra’ years are spent free of long-term disabling conditions.

Hydrotherapy has been present across cultures and used for thousands of years to improve both physical and mental health through different practices such as steam bathing, recognised by both Greeks and Romans for its many benefits from hygiene to therapeutic applications. Recent research shows that water therapies can become a tremendous factor in meliorating people’s physical, mental, and neurological conditions which tend to severely affect their daily lives.

The Hydrotherapy Centre aims to bring people into a space that can educate about the benefits of water on the body and mind, which, in the long run, would teach different values regarding the perception and relation with water, moving towards a more stable coexistence with natural resources, while celebrating them in the context of longevity.
