Reverse Colonialism

Project details

Programme
Unit UG11
Year 2

In a speculative scenario where marginalised and colonised people are equal to their oppressors, a monument is erected in celebration of their diverse identities.

Structurally, the building compacts the encroaching growth of governmental bodies by encapsulating esoteric qualities. The visual language reflects a mystical and monastic aura that allows the building to become a threshold between terrestrial and ethereal realms.

Technology is used as a medium for the 're-narration' of traditional cultures and practices suppressed through history. The spaces capture elements of traditional heterogeneity through geometric shapes and ornamentation, both of which serve as a softening agent of the two opposing styles, bridging futurism and historicism with an expression of modernism.

Astral Projection Space

The building's astral projection space pays tribute to classical and medieval hermeticism, providing a spiritual, 'out of body' experience.
