The project is an investigation into curiosity and imagination and how adults can experience feelings of childhood excitement through architecture.
The building is located next to the V&A Museum of Childhood and embraces play to encourage creativity and imagination.
Programmatically, the building provides visitors with free workspace and seating areas, study break-out rooms and a small café. The generosity of the building, however, lies in its ability to be appropriated to encourage an intuitive discourse around the elements.
The project invokes an ethereal sense of comfort and nostalgia – not too far out of reach, equal parts familiar and fantastical, revealing a sense of discovery and curiosity of the unknown. The design transforms from soft to hard, with changing textures and scales that create a dialogue with the site, while emphasising the importance of play and creativity in the urban landscape.
Visitors are encouraged to explore outside the bounds of current knowledge and establish a framework for radical exploration.
The building offers a new route from the street through to the V&A Museum of Childhood.
