The concept of scenography and creative spaces to reshape architecture’s purpose allows for the development of a stone shell, housing a variety of flexible spaces for lectures, galleries and shows. The design is for a creative hub located in Tuscany Wharf, overlooking Regent’s Canal, London, surrounded by studios.
The structure embraces the modernisation of stone and, through its transportation to the site, references ‘Medieval Futurism’ – as seen in the set design of recent Hollywood films like ‘Dune’ (2021) and ‘Macbeth’ (2021). Regent’s Canal connects to Portland Stone Quarry, requiring a study of level changes and measurements of every underpass for height and width limitations during transportation. Monumental pieces of raw stone frame the building, modelled in foam and then cast stone, to support a design process that clarifies the framework and the indoor and outdoor separation.
A limited choice of finishes and materials forms the shell. This allows for a broader understanding of the programme, and its character, within the structural qualities of an architectural language that requires an adaptability of flexible spaces.

The building includes a 50m long bridge, starting on Orsman Road and extending to the other side of the canal. Parallel is a narrower bridge in the west wing of the same length.
