Situated in Canning Town’s creative community, the building acts as a space for local artists to explore the microgenre ‘hyperpop’. With both visual and music studios, the building provides a space to encourage more collaboration across mediums, with a nightclub to test these ideas.
The building is dedicated to Shygirl, a London-based hyperpop artist. Inspired by Shygirl’s London-based collective, the focus lies on encouraging more women to produce music, providing a space for local talent, and pushing the boundaries of pop music, art and fashion.
During the day, the building is a hectic factory, with a café, allowing passers-by to enter the maximalist world of hyperpop. In the evening the building opens its hyperpop nightclub, where the artists showcase their latest creations, both visually and sonically. The public engage with the world of hyperpop directly and create a digital alter ego for themselves; and upon arrival they receive special shoes to dance in, designed in the studio above. The building creates a sense of joy and excitement, allowing for a more inclusive community within the pop music industry.
