The project responds to the ever-increasing issue of e-waste. It aims to be a catalyst for a change in the current model for the production, consumption, and disposal of e-goods. The project reappropriates the Interchange Warehouse, a former transportation hub with a basin underneath for barges. Thus, part of the program is to reinvigorate the basin.
The proposed programme consists of four elements: a disassembly hub that disassembles e-waste; a storage area for storing useful retrieved components; a dynamic display/archive that archives the sorted and disassembled components; and a small electrical workshop, which aims to empower people to repair and engage with electronics.
Over time the program will evolve; its scale will increase and so the rest of the building will be occupied. The display archive records the Electrical Complexity in its cathedral-like space. It aims to create a sense of awe and reflect the chaos and complexity of electrical items.
