Project details

Programme
Unit UG4
Year 3

The project proposes a space for people to release and escape urban stress in Silvertown, East London. It contains private tea houses, skywalks, a watch tower, and a club, where timber serves as the main material to form a fragile and delicate overground structure, juxtaposing the robust underground palette of concrete and granite.

The design of the building embraces Asian culture and their vernacular usage of timber as an architectural material. It explores the possibilities of combining two spatial languages and creating a dialogue of contrast between human reactions, pulling the space into suspension.

Aerial View

An aerial view capturing the integration of the architectural structures into the fabric of the park's landscape.

Inside the Teahouse

Delicate vertical articulations of timber elements frame the view towards the watch tower.

External Ground Floor

The solidity of the granite floor juxtaposes the elevated porous timber elements.

The Sky Walk, the Watch Tower and the Existing

A view capturing the different elements of the site tied together through a common materiality.
